Daniel was enrolled at Children’s House when he was four. When he came to Children’s House, he was living with his grandparents because of ongoing physical abuse by his father. Daniel suffered from a deep anxiety disorder that led him to impulsive, hyperactive and aggressive behavior towards everyone around him, including his grandparents, by using toys as weapons and outbursts of foul language. The Children’s House staff had to set gentle but firm limits with Daniel and redirect his aggression and verbal outbursts.

Because of the physical abuse Daniel’s mother also suffered from Daniel’s father, she moved in with her parents and Daniel with permission from the courts. Children’s House was then able to offer help to both son and mother. Daniel’s mother started learning parenting skills at Children’s House to help reinforce his treatment at home. Daniel started to make major progress with controlling his anger, impulsive behavior and inappropriate language in the classroom and at home.

Through participating in a structured program, both at home and at Children’s House, Daniel and his mother gained the strength, self-confidence and know-how to achieve the goals laid out by Children’s House, Department of Human Services and the Juvenile Court System. Today, they live on their own and Daniel is thriving in the public school system. Daniel and his mother still come to Children’s House. But now it isn’t for help, just to say hello and thank you for giving Daniel the chance to grow up knowing how to love and trust again.
